What I See When I Sew

Oh bother.  I haven’t been a very good blogger once again.  And I’ve also been quite a slow quilter as well.  All of my good intentions of finishing my UFO’s have been cast aside lately by the business of every day life.  My Single Girl quilt sits on the chair feeling very neglected and sad.  Out of anger, and also knowing how the curved piecing has me a bit undone, it taunts me.  I think I can, I think I can…Single Girl, I will conquer you.  Next week, maybe.

So, let’s just have a photo-heavy post on my little sewing room, shall we?  Yes.  And then perhaps my next post I will have something to actually SHOW you.

With a slight bit of guilt, I took over a room in our small house for sewing.   The sewing corner I once had was growing and carving out more and more room out of the living room and was generally bugging the fam here at the cottage.  I reasoned with the two girls that they hardly ever actually played in the playroom and before they could answer, I had turned the playroom into this…

That’s some fancy cinder-block, isn’t it?

Some of my Kona solids, chambrays, shot cottons and Essex linen.  I love my solids together in one spot.

A shelf just for Flea Market Fancy.  Because I love it that. much.

A rack from a garage sale that holds thread and perle cotton just perfectly.  The pincushion is one my mom made in 1941.  The pumpkin is circa 2006, made by Suzannah in kindergarten.

Little chair with even littler birds.  See the Liberty Tana Lawn behind it?  Sigh…

A little needlework I did in 1991 before I ever got the nerve up to think that I could ever make a quilt of my own.  I gave this to my mom for mother’s day.

Everyone has one of these, right?  Ye olde scrap basket.

And last, but definitely not least, my Christmas gift from Mr. Cottage.  My Rowenta DA 1560.  See that pointy tip?  Totally rocks.  When I’m piecing blocks, the compact size and shape is just what a quilter wants.  I recommend it whole-heartedly. That’s the sewing room here at the cottage…I’ll be back soon with what I’ve been sewing.  It’s not quilts by the way….
